Region of Castilla y León (Spain)
Castilla y León is one of Europe’s greatest cultural centres. The region, which covers a vast chunk of northwestern Spain -from just north of Madrid to Galicia, and from Rioja to Portugal- is home to no less than nine UNESCO World Heritage sites.
But it’s not just in the fields of architecture, art and history where Castilla y León’s remarkable cultural richness is located. As any visitor to the region learns soon enough, Castilla y León is also one of Europe’s most important viticultural centres, one with an outsized share of Spain’s most exciting contemporary wine producers.
